What actually differs between file transfer services
Almost every comparison comes down to five questions: how large a file can be, whether an account is required, how long a link survives, whether you can put a password on it, and how many times it can be downloaded.
Services differ far less on the transfer itself than on those controls. The mechanics of moving bytes over HTTPS are solved; the disagreement is about who gets to decide what happens after the link is sent.
How to pick between them
Match the tool to the transfer rather than to a feature list:
- Larger than 200 MB, or a recipient who needs to recognise the brand: WeTransfer.
- A single handoff to one person, where the file should vanish once collected: file.io.
- A large file with no ceremony and no account: Filebin.
- A chosen expiry, a password, or a download limit on the free tier: FileShare.
Where FileShare is not the right answer
The 200 MB per-file cap is the clearest limitation. If your files are consistently bigger than that, one of the other services is a better home for the job and you should use it.
There is also no account, which means no recovery and no way to manage uploads from a second device. That is a deliberate trade, but it is a real one.
